My involvement in the craft community began in the second grade, when I sewed a sailboat from yarn and burlap and entered it in a school show.
Over the years, I have moved from school to a family and career; from the west side of Michigan to Metro Detroit; and from burlap boats to aprons, embroidery, wall art, and accessories under the business name my marigold. www.mymarigold.com
I am a member of Handmade Detroit, a DIY craft collective, which aims to create community and opportunities around Detroit’s independent makers. Handmade Detroit produces the Detroit Urban Craft Fair, Michigan’s largest and most visible indie craft fair each fall, as well as monthly craft meet-ups and other selling and learning opportunities throughout the year.
Detroit is THE center of handcrafted culture? Are you kidding me?
Nope.
