Show schedule!

Hiya!

Thanks to all for coming out to Maker Faire last weekend! Here’s a list of the other fairs you can find me at this year!

DIYpsi August 13

AND

DIY Street Fair  September 16, 17, 18

And of course the 6th Annual Detroit Urban Craft Fair (which we just announced today!) on December 3rd and 4th at the Masonic Temple in Detroit!

Kid’s Valentine’s Day snacks

My daughter’s school encourages parents to bring fun and tasty but also healthful snacks to school for party days (just one of the many, many reasons picking FMS was one of the best decisions my husband and I have ever made).

For this year’s party we went kind of an easy route with store bought hummus, so I decided to dress it up for Valentine’s Day:

Cookie cutter pita bread hearts

Red pepper heart decoration on top

This seriously took no time at all, and was much more fun to present than a plastic container of hummus and a bag of pita.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Energizing and Eating

I’m a breakfast gal.  I look forward to Sunday mornings each week when my family can lounge around in our jammies, sip coffee all day (well, the adults at least), and eat a big, late breakfast. It’s our way of reconnecting after our busy week, and mentally preparing for the next one to start. When we have other commitments on Sunday mornings that take us away from this ritual it just doesn’t feel right!

So I was really excited when my friend Lish sent me this link to some new breakfast ideas (as well as lots of other great looking vegan recipes)! the one that really stuck out to me was for Avocado Toast. Doesn’t seem like much, but it is oh so good, I really think I could eat it every day, and we have already incorporated it into dinnertimes for fussy eaters.

Here’s the recipe,  the original can be found here:

Choose a nice, thick seedy bread, around Detroit you can’t go wrong with a lovely loaf from Zingerman’s or Avalon Bakery. Slice it and drizzle olive oil on it, and toast it in the oven for a few minutes until it’s got a nice crispness to the top. Mash the avocado and add some salt, pepper, and a squeeze of lemon or lime. Then sprinkle some red pepper flakes on top.

Really, there is so much you could do with this as far as additions go, I doubt you could mess it up!

What’s your regular ritual that re-energizes you?

In springtime, the only pretty ring time
Birds sing, hey ding
A-ding, a-ding
Sweet lovers love the spring—

I’m so ready for spring to settle in and stay in these here parts, how about you? With the coming of spring also comes the excitement of craft fair season, and I am having a ball (and just getting slightly overwhelmed) preparing for everything that is going on!

I was one of the many artists selling last weekend at The Blue House in Ann Arbor. I’m really excited about this space; it boasts not only a retail area but also lots of workshop space (with some great looking classes coming up) and studio space available for rental. Please check it out and support handmade!

We gals at Handmade Detroit have our first event of the year coming up on April17. Craft Revival will have over 25 local (and a few not so local) vendors selling their wonderful goods from 11-6 at The Loving touch in Ferndale.

Here are some of the new items I have been working on, and will have at Revival for you and yours:

Celebration banners made with new and vintage fabrics, linens, and doilies

Vintage doily wall art

Lots of vintage doily wall art!

And oodles of new Michigan framed shrinky dink goodies.

Hope to see you there!

Birthday Banner

For Ramona’s birthday this year, I used some gifted fabric (thanks Lish), and leftover bias tape to make a Cronkite Birthday Banner. I loved how it turned out, and it was so simple!

We are pretty into having some future family heirlooms to be handed down through the years (The Cronkite Family Flask, for example), and are hoping this new banner becomes another one of those things for us.
